Why should your child have chiropractic care?

Children are susceptible to trauma to their spines from various events and activities. This can begin with the birth process. Regardless of the nature of a birth, from an all natural birth with no intervention to a Cesarean section, the spine has the potential to be injured. When a child develops structural issues at such an early age, it can affect development, and lead to secondary conditions such as colic, constipation, and difficulty latching while breast feeding.

As a child grows, she begins to crawl, walk, and play. These all present unique stresses on the spine. Overtime, small but significant shifts can develop. If neglected, these structural issues may lead to more serious problems in the future. Commonly, secondary conditions such as ear infections, asthma, scoliosis, and headaches may develop.

Spinal hygiene, like dental hygiene, is an important key to your child’s health. Regular pediatric chiropractic checkups can identify potential structural issues of your child’s spine, before they develop into a problematic condition. At Keystone Chiropractic, Drs. Megan and Adam Ries have additional training through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, for the care of infants and children.

What can chiropractic do for your child?

It’s important to understand that pediatric chiropractic techniques differ significantly from those used with adults. Often, a gentle pressure (like that which you would test the ripeness of a tomato) is all that is required to guide your child’s spine toward its normal structure.

As the structure of your child’s spine improves, it removes obstructions to the normal function of the nerve system. In doing so, your child can develop properly, and see resolution to problems such as ear infections, colic, or constipation.
